五十年之后呢？
在中法建交五十年后，中国转变的速度令人着迷，也耐人寻味。很可惜我跟中国知识界的接触少之又少，经济动力和缺乏活力的体制之间的不匹配，会影响社会凝聚力，但中国知识分子让我们相信，中国正在寻找新的各种形式的治理艺术。除了“和平崛起”、“和谐社会”、“北京共识”这些寻求秩序的语汇外，通过言论的自由传播，将有可能找到一条社会政治的新道路。只要“和谐”（也就是孔子的说法）不与“一致”混为一谈，这种治理艺术将会有助于发展多样性，就如同百花齐放的音乐和烹饪艺术。
在欧洲和在中国一样，当政治论辩令人失望甚或陷入绝望之时，民族主义便会抬头；当在文化或政治规划中无处容身的暴力，充斥于“商业”和“战争”中时，腐败便会滋生；当我们见利忘义之时，污染便会困扰我们……这些都是我们共同面临的灾难。那怎么办呢？
“法非从天下也，非从地出也，发乎人间，反己自正。”文子不是如是道出了饱含中国智慧的人文主义解决方案了吗？
如果没有勇气对政治风气进行不断的重塑，（不断地）把每一个中国人、欧洲人和说话的人塑造成公民，那么在下一个千年仍然不会有任何进步。为了让个人和集体、特性和通性和谐共处（如上所述，按照孔子的说法）……只需要提醒布鲁塞尔和北京的官员，召开一次从词源上讨论“政治”这个汉语词汇的会议即可：面对（人和技术的各种复杂情况）采取疏堵结合的方式。
请允许我以严肃的笔调来结束行文。正如你们之中的许多人一样，我也常常对精神沦落、技术至上和生态危机感到绝望。但我最近的一次中国之行，却完全打消了我这方面的担忧。然而，能拯救我们的，并不是一场新的世界大战，而是一种新的信仰。我们需再创造出一种面向文化对话的政治哲学，最好是让这种政治哲学深入每个人的人心。这种做法并非是一种别无选择的乐观主义。应该对我们身边的这些威胁保持警惕。不过，我也希望人们对这两种文化的潜能给予足够重视，由此我们今天能够正确判断危机与机遇。
Changing History: Cultural Meditation on the Fifty Years of Sino-France Diplomatic Ties

Abstract: On January 27, 1964, when France and China shook hands with each other, Europe "opened the era of China". Fifty years later, the speed of changes in China has become fascinating as well as meaningful. France and Europe are mired into a local crisis and move forward slowly, while China will join the US and become another important center of power in the world. The two countries have similar thoughts, and deep in heart they are interested in and respect each other. China and Europe both need to rely on their own cultural characteristics to prove the political and economic autonomy, and enhance their confidence in their cultural heritage through in-depth analysis and "revaluation" of their own cultural memory. It has been confirmed that the fourth crisis is coming, what can save us is not a new world war, but a new belief. We need to create a political philosophy oriented to cultural dialogue, which requires people to pay due attention to the potential of these two cultures.
